The following interview was conducted with KFRU's Sean Secrease on March 26 in Fort Collins, Colo., a day before the women's basketball team's matchup with Colorado State in the quarterfinals of the WNIT:
On coming back to Fort Collins:
"It's been kind of weird; its the meshing of two worlds with my Missouri teammates here, and my friends and family."
Has there been a big surge of anticipation from the people here in Fort Collins? "I think so. I've been trying to get the word out a little for my teachers, friends, and family members to come out, so hopefully it'll be a Missouri good crowd there."
What sort of lifestyle changes have you noticed since you moved to Columbia?
"Columbia's very different from Fort Collins; Fort Collins is really laid back, and Columbia's a little bit more conservative, but it's been a great change. I've learned a lot, and I love both places."
You grew up here, and it's a beautiful scene. Were you ever close to making a decision to stay here for school? What was the recruiting process like?
"Actually, it came down between Colorado State and Mizzou. It just kind of came down to whether I wanted to stay home or go away, and I kind of felt like doing some growing, so I decided to go away."
Has there been a difference in what you can do for recreation?
"I always like to sneak in a couple of trips to the ski resort during spring break that Coach Stein probably doesn't know about, but I like to ride my bike a lot, and surprisingly Columbia has a lot of great trails, but I miss the mountains."
The team got about a two-hour practice in on Wednesday; what was it like to get back onto the Moby Arena floor?
"I went to camp probably seven years here at CSU, so it's weird to be on the floor and see the banners and be a part of the game instead of as a fan. Usually, I sat in the same seat when I would watch their games, and I kind of pictured myself out there watching the games, and now I am."
How much different is it to be in the WNIT as opposed to the NCAA Tournament?
"I wish we would have been to the NCAA's, but we're here in the WNIT, we have to make the most of it, and we're excited to be here."
The Big 12 is a league that draws stars. What do you know about the Mountain West Conference?
"We don't get to watch much of the Mountain West, but we've watched some film, and we're just trying to get more familiar with them."
