The University of Missouri track and field team will host the Missouri All-Comers Track Meet in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse on Saturday. Athletes from around the country are expected to compete in four divisions pre-high school, high school, college/open, and masters. The meet begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs throughout the day.
The Missouri track and field team is coming off a successful weekend at the Iowa State Track & Field Classic. At the meet sophomore Amanda Bales automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in 3000 meters. Bales has also qualified in the mile. Bales leads the Big 12 in both events. Senior All-American Christian Cantwell leads the Big 12 and the nation in the shot put. His throw of 68 feet, 5 inches two weeks ago is the second-farthest throw in the world this year. Cantwell has been named Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Male Athlete of the Week twice this year. In addition to Bales and Cantwell, five Tigers have provisionally qualfied for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The All-Comers Meet running events get unerway at 8:30 am with the 3000 meter race walk, the field events start at 9:00am and the meet concludes with the 4x400 meter relay. Next week the Tigers will take on the nation's elite when they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
