Mizzou Men's Golf Finishes Third at Rice Intercollegiate

Cypress, Texas. - The University of Missouri men's golf squad started the 2003 spring season by placing third in the Rice Intercollegiate at BlackHorse North Golf Course in Cypress, Texas. Northwestern and North Texas took the one and two spots ahead of the Tigers with Northwestern shooting one over par as a team. Mizzou (297-287-310 -- 894) finished 29 strokes behind Northwestern and 11 behind North Texas.

Senior Chris Happ (70-68-72 - 210) shot even par in the final round to stay six strokes under par, a season-best and a spring season career-best. Happ placed second in the tournament, a season-high placing, and was just one stroke behind tournament winner Scott Harrington of Northwestern. Junior Brandon Knaub also had an impressive showing. He carded a score of one-over-par on the final day and finished the tournament tied for fourth place (74-71-73 - 218).

Also golfing for the Tigers, junior David Jenkins (74-72-83 - 229) came into Tuesday's action two-shots over par and finished tied for 39th. Junior Michael Radek (79-77-82 - 238) and senior Cory Ewert (85-76-85-246) rounded out the Tigers' scoring by finishing tied for 61st and 67th, respectively.

The Tigers will continue their spring tour next week on Monday as they will travel to Lakeland, Ill. for the Matlock Collegiate Classic. For complete results of the tournament, log onto www.mutigers.com .
