Mizzou Track & Field Heads to Illinois

Jan. 30, 2003

The University of Missouri men and women's track teams head to Champaign, Illinois this weekend for the Carle/Health Alliance Classic, hosted by the University of Illinois. In addition to the Fighting Illini, the Tigers will take on Indiana and Eastern Illinois.

Tiger thrower Christian Cantwell looks to continue his already impressive season on Saturday in the shot put and weight throw. The five-time All-American threw 65 feet, 7.75 inches in the shot put last week at Kansas, that throw automatically qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Tiger junior Jennifer Bennett has set two school records in the pole vault in two weeks. Bennett's jump of 13 feet provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships. These two, along with many other Tigers, hope to lead Missouri to their first victory of the indoor season. The Tiger men finished second and the women finished third at the KU-KSU-MU Triangular last week.

The Carle/Health Alliance Classic begins at 11:45am on Saturday.
