The Missouri women's swimming and diving teams started the meet off strong, establishing a huge lead, then coasted to an easy victory against Drury University in a nonconference dual meet at the University Natatorium. The 21st-ranked women won the first 11 events before conceding the last two events to the Panthers, winning with a score of 159-72.
Seven different women won individual events, led by senior Katy Chandler who won both the 1,000 freestyle (10:22.51) and the 100 freestyle (53.86). Both times are season's best times for Chandler and her time in the 1,000 freestyle is the second best time on the team this season.
Junior Rebecca Wolfe also won two events for the Tigers. She won both the 400 individual medley (4:33.98) and the 500 freestyle (5:05.77).
Other top finishers include Lindsay Palbykin winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.01. Andrea Nigh continuing her dominance of the sprint freestyle events by winning the 50 freestyle in 24.06. Becca Dawson won the 200 butterfly (2:06.68) with Liz Schoborg and Molly Christensen finishing 2-3 behind her. Junior Sarah Lo easily won the 200 backstroke with her time of 2:06.47.
Lo, Tiffany Bohon, Dawson and Nigh teamed up to win the 400 medley relay in 3:53.79.
The women's diving team once again flourished, contributing points in each board. The diving team swept the first three places in both the 1 and 3-meter boards. Amanda Maret had the best dual of her career, winning both boards and setting career best in the 3-meter. Her score of 289.35 in the 3-meter past her previous high of 285.45 set last season. That score as well as her score in the 1-meter (260.63) are NCAA Zone Diving Championship qualifying scores. The 3-meter score is also a team high this season. Freshman Joanna Lawrence finished second in both boards, setting a career high in the 3-meter with her score of 273.00. January's Big 12 Diver of the Month Anna Massey finished third in the 3-meter (268.95) and freshman Nicole Frazier finished third in the 1-meter (238.05).
Tomorrow the women's team will hold their Senior Day in a conference dual meet against Iowa State in the University Natatorium at 2:00 p.m. Seniors Tiffany Bohon, Katy Chandler, Ellen Cross, Chrissy Frieh, Leslie Hoh and Sarah Stowe will be honored before their last home meet.
NEWS FROM THE DECK: Before the meet the Special Olympics held an exhibition relay in the pool with many Tiger swimmers as coaches...The women's victory improved their record to 11-1. The eleven victories are the most wins for either the men's and women's team under Head Coach Brian Hoffer...The senior women have compiled a dual meet record of 36-7 over the past four years.
