COLUMBIA, Mo. - Northern Iowa scored three runs in the seventh inning and then added three more in the ninth inning to pick up a 10-6 win over Missouri in non-conference action Saturday night at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
The Panthers (29-23-1) opened a 4-1 lead after three innings before the Tigers tied the contest in the fifth. Missouri ends the season 24-29 while Northern Iowa will play in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament next week in Wichita, Kan.
Northern Iowa scored first when it got a two-run single by Adam Boeve to plate a pair of runs in the second inning. Boeve thought he had tripled but missed second base on his way to third base and was retired after an appeal.
Missouri used a leadoff triple by Wes Fewell to open the second inning he came around to score on a single by Brent Lacy to make it 2-1.
The Panthers scored two runs in the third inning before Missouri answered with a run in its half of the fourth. Jody Roughton led off the fourth with a single before going to second base on a wild pitch and scoring on a Mick Weiss single.
The Tigers used three consecutive hits to score two runs and tie the game in the fifth. After one out, W.T. Hoover singled and Ryan Rallo followed with a double to left field. Cody Ehlers doubled to right field to score both runners and tie the game.
Northern Iowa got a three-run home run by Gary Lane in the seventh inning to take a 7-4 lead but the Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom half of that inning. With two outs, Ehlers singled and scored on a double by Roughton. The RBI for Roughton was his 60th of the season. Roughton scored on a single by Weiss to make it 7-6.
Northern Iowa used three hits to score three runs in the ninth inning to take a 10-6 lead. The Panthers scored eight runs in the ninth inning in the three-game series.
Lacy doubled in the eighth inning to give him three hits in the contest, his second three-hit game of his young career. Rallo, Ehlers, Roughton and Weiss each had two hits. Justin James suffered the loss for the Tigers.
