
Fisher and McGinnis Earn Midwest All-Region Softball Honors

Columbia, Mo.- Two members of the University of Missouri softball team were named to the Midwest All-Region Softball teams it was announced on Wednesday. Junior designated player Melanie Fisher earned first team honors while sophomore Rachael McGinnis was named to the second team. Both individuals were named to the team last season and Fisher went on to be named an National Fast Pitch Coaches Association All-American.
Fisher was named to the Big 12 Conference's top designated player earlier this season. She registered a .344 batting average in 33 games this season for Mizzou. She recorded a hit in 23 of the 33 games in 2002 and recorded two or more hits in eight of those contests.
Despite playing in just over half of the Tiger's games due to her duties as a starter on the MU women's basketball team, Fisher ranked second on the Tiger squad in home runs (4) and batting average (.344). She is now eligible to named to the NFCA All-American team.
McGinnis also had a brilliant 2002 earning All-Big 12 first team honors at third base. She led Mizzou in most offensive catergories including batting average (.379), runs (32), hits (67), doubles (10) and home runs (7). She also paced the squad in RBI (47), total bases (108), walks (25) and slugging percentage (.610).
McGinnis slated the longest hitting streak by any Tiger this season with a knock in 13 straight games. Her batting average was as high as .512 as she had a streak of recording at least on hit in 21 of 22 games.
