COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kansas State used 16 hits and a four-hit complete game pitching effort from Brock Smith to pick up a 10-1 victory over Missouri in Saturday's Big 12 Conference game at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
Kansas State improved to 25-23 overall and 10-13 in Big 12 play, while Missouri is now 23-27 overall and 9-16 in league action. The Tigers have lost a season-high six consecutive games.
KSU scored a run in the first inning and added another run in the third frame to take a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.
Just like on Friday night, KSU came alive offensively in the seventh and eighth innings. The Wildcats scored three runs in the seventh before blasting seven hits for five runs in the eighth for a 10-0 lead.
After making two running catches in the top half of the ninth inning, Missouri's Wes Fewell led off the inning with a home run to center field. The home run was Fewell's first of the season and third of his career. Fewell entered the game after Jayce Tingler left the game. Tingler suffered an injury to his right shoulder while attempting a diving catch in Friday's game. Tingler started on Saturday and got one hit.
Missouri finished the game with four hits.
The two teams will conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
