
Missouri Rallies Again To Down Washington, 12-11

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Jody Roughton delivered a two-out, bases-loaded single to score Chris Julo and give Missouri a 12-11 win over Washington in non-conference action Sunday at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
Roughton's hit capped a day of comebacks for Missouri, now 14-16 overall after winning all three games from Washington and all via rallies. Washington falls to 12-15-1.
The Tigers trailed 6-0 before tying the game in the sixth inning. MU trailed 9-7 before taking a 10-9 lead after seven innings. Washington scored a run in the eighth inning to tie the game and added a run in the ninth to make 11-10 with the Tigers coming to bat in their half of the inning.
In MU's half of the ninth, Brent Lacy and Chris Julo both reached on an errors. After two outs, Cody Ehlers doubled to left field to score Lacy. Mick Weiss was walked intentionally to load the bases and bring up Roughton, whose hit went off of the second baseman and into right field to plate Julo and give the Tigers the win.
UW scored four runs in the first inning. Missouri starting pitcher Abel Newton hit the leadoff batter and gave up a single before injuring himself while backing up a throw. The Huskies used a two-run single by Tyler Davidson to score two of their four runs.
Washington added two runs in the fourth inning before Missouri had a five-run outburst in its half of the frame. Lee Laskowski was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Luke Cassis reached on a single. Brent Lacy walked to load the bases. Laskowski scored on a wild pitch before Tony Vitello walked. Jayce Tingler singled to center field to score Cassis and Lacy to make it 6-3. Vitello scored on an infield out before Tingler scored on another wild pitch to make it 6-5.
The Tigers tied the game in the sixth inning. Tingler led off the inning with a double before moving to third base on an infield out. He scored when Cody Ehlers grounded out. Washington got three consecutive singles to open the seventh inning before Josh Otness delivered a pinch-hit double down the left-field line to score two more runs and give the Huskies a 9-6 lead.
The Tigers once again answered Washington's rally with four runs of their own. Jody Roughton singled to chase UW starting pitcher Sean White. Lee Laskowski greeted reliever Scott Robertson with a double. Pinch hitter Chris Julo walked before Tingler was hit by a pitch to score one run. Laskowski scored on a balk before pinch hitter Bo Davis delivered a hit to right-center to give MU a 10-9 lead.
Washington tied the game after Jay Garthwaite singled, stole second base and moved to third base on a wild pitch. Garthwaite scored when MU catcher Brent Lacy's throw to first base in attempt to retire Davidson on a dropped third strike hit Davidson in the back and he reached safely.
The Huskies plated a run in the top of the ninth inning when Brandon Jacobson reached on a one-out walk. He went to second base on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on a double by Tila Reynolds.
That set up the Tigers' efforts in the ninth.
Roughton had three hits for the Tigers while Laskowski, Tingler, Luke Cassis and W.T. Hoover each had two hits for Missouri. Matt Hobbs picked up the win for the Tigers.
