COLUMBIA, Mo. - Southeast Missouri broke out to a 6-1 lead after four innings of play and handed Missouri an 8-5 loss Tuesday night in non-conference action at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. Missouri falls to 11-16 while Southeast Missouri is 10-11.
The Tigers actually scored first as they took advantage of three walks and one hit batsman to score a run in the first inning and take a 1-0 lead without a hit. However, MU stranded three baserunners, a sign of things to come as the Tigers left a season-high 15 runners on base.
Southeast Missouri used a pair of two-out hits to score three runs in the second inning. The Indians then used three hits in the third inning to plate two more runs and take a 5-1 lead. Southeast Missouri scored one run in the fourth inning for a 6-1 lead.
With one out in the fifth, Jayce Tingler reached on a bunt single. W.T. Hoover walked while Lee Laskowski singled to left field to score Tingler. A pair of walks plated Hoover as MU cut into the lead, making it 6-3.
The Indians used two hits, a walk, a hit batter and a balk to plate two runs in the eighth inning and take an 8-3 lead.
Missouri scored a run in the eighth inning. Luke Cassis led off the frame with a single and scored on an infield out.
The Tigers mounted a one-out rally in the ninth. The Tigers used three hits to score one run but Hoover's fly ball to center field was caught to end the game.
MU's Laskowski had three hits to extend his hit streak to 11 games. Tingler also had three hits while Cassis and Chris Julo each had two hits.
Missouri will face Washington in a three-game series this weekend. Friday's game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
