COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri saw its three-game win streak over Nebraska end Saturday as the No. 10/14 Cornhuskers picked up a 6-3 win over the Tigers in Big 12 Conference action at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. The game was played in front of 1,508 fans - the largest MU crowd in the history of Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
Missouri falls to 15-18 overall and 4-10 in Big 12 play, while nationally ranked Nebraska improves to 23-12 overall and 10-7 in league action.
The three-game series is tied with one win each after Missouri defeated Nebraska, 9-6, on Friday night. Last season, Missouri won the best-of-three series from the Cornhuskers by winning the series' last two games.
Lee Laskowski had three of the Tigers' six hits in the contest. Laskowski now has 17 games with two-or-more hits in MU's 34 games this season.
Nebraska used three hits to score one run in the first inning and take a 1-0 lead. The Cornhuskers plated a run in the third inning by taking advantage of a single and a pair of wild pitches.
Missouri got on the scoreboard in its half of the third. Tony Vitello was hit by a pitch and moved to third base on a single by Jayce Tingler. Bo Davis hit a sacrifice fly to score Vitello make the score 2-1.
The Cornhuskers used five hits to score four runs in the seventh inning. Jed Morris delivered a two-run single for the frame's big hit.
MU scored one run in the seventh inning. Mick Weiss led off the frame with a single to right before walks to Luke Cassis and Vitello loaded the bases. Tingler hit a sacrifice fly to score Weiss and make the score 6-2.
In the ninth inning, W. T. Hoover reached on an error before Vitello was hit with a pitch. Tingler sacrificed the runners over to third and second base, respectively. Davis drove in Hoover with an infield out. Jody Roughton flew out to left field to end the game.
The third and final game of the series will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
