
Missouri Comeback Attempts Just Fall Short

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri would not say die until the end Tuesday night at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
The Tigers trailed by five runs at one point before rallying but a three-run deficit was too much to overcome in the ninth inning as Missouri dropped an 11-10 decision to Arkansas in non-conference action.
Missouri trailed 5-0 before taking a 6-5 lead but later trailed by 8-6 and 10-6 scores before making a comeback. Missouri trailed 11-8 going into its half of the ninth inning and had the bases loaded with no outs but scored only two runs to suffer the loss.
After one out, Arkansas strung together five hits to score five runs in the second inning and take a 5-0 lead.
Missouri scored two runs with two outs in its half of the second. Jayce Tingler singled to right field to score Ryan Rallo and Ryan Rothford.
The Tigers took a 6-5 lead by scoring four runs in the third inning without a hit. MU took advantage of three walks, two errors, two groundouts and a sacrifice fly to score its four runs and take the lead.
After two outs in the fourth, Arkansas scored three runs by stringing together three hits after a walk and taking advantage of a Missouri error.
Arkansas plated a pair of runs in the seventh inning and took a 10-6 lead.
Missouri scored two runs in the eighth inning. Tingler led off the inning with a single to left field. He scored on a two-out triple by Lee Laskowski. Laskowski scored on a single by Rallo to make it 10-8.
The Razorbacks added a run in the ninth inning when Cliff Crouse singled, stole second base and scored on a two-out double by Nick Pitts.
In the ninth inning, Luke Cassis led off the the frame with a double. Tony Vitello walked before Tingler reached on a bunt single to lead the bases. Cassis scored on a sacrifice fly before Vitello scored on a balk. However, Tingler, the tying run was stranded at third as MU fell, 11-10.
Cassis and Tingler each had three hits in the contest while Laskowski, Ehlers and Rallo each had two hits.
Missouri will face No. 8/9 Baylor this weekend in a three-game Big 12 Conference series. The first game will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
