NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of New Orleans scored five times in the ninth inning to down the University of Missouri 11-10 Sunday at Maestri Field at Privateer Park on the University of New Orleans campus.
Missouri entered the inning with a 10-6 lead but the Privateers rallied to win their third-straight contest via a ninth-inning rally.
The Tigers opened the game with a four-run first inning, all runs coming with two outs in the frame. Jody Roughton (Jr., Carthage, Mo.) tripled off of the center field wall before Cody Ehlers (So. Stillwater, Okla.) doubled down the right field line to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Lee Laskowski (So., Clayton, Mo.) singled to center to score Ehlers before Mick Weiss (Sr., St. Peters, Mo.) hit his first home run of the season to center and give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
Missouri pushed across two runs in the second inning via a pair of UNO errors to take a 6-0 led. However, New Orleans scored two runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth inning to chase MU starting pitcher Abel Newton (Fr., Russellville, Ark.) and tie the game, 6-6.
Missouri used another two-out rally, this time in the fifth inning, to score a pair of runs. The Tigers used four consecutive singles by Brent Lacy (Fr. Ellisville, Mo.), Luke Cassis (Sr., Wheaton, Ill.), Jayce Tingler (Jr., Smithville, Mo.) and Felipe Tetelboin (So., Van Nuys, Calif.) to take an 8-6 lead.
A one-out double by Laskowski got the Tigers started in the sixth inning. Walks to Weiss and Ryan Rallo (So., Chesterfield, Mo.) loaded the bases before a Lacy single scored Laskowski. Tingler reached on a bunt single to score Weiss but Rallo was caught in a rundown to give MU a 10-6 lead.
New Orleans threatened by loading the bases with one out in the seventh inning but Garrett Broshuis (Fr., Advance, Mo.) came in to put out the rally attempt. However Broshuis and Matt Hobbs were roughed up in the ninth inning during the UNO rally. Tingler, Laskowski and Lacy each had two hits to lead MU.
Missouri is scheduled to play Saint Louis Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. MU will follow that contest with a home weekend series against Youngstown State.
