Missouri senior Christi Myers has been selected to the AVCA All-America Third Team, as announced by the AVCA All-America Committee on Thursday. Myers is the first Mizzou volleyball player ever to receive All-America recognition.
Myers averaged 3.97 kills per game during the 2002 season and had a hitting percentage of .380. She also averaged 1.36 digs per game, 1.03 blocks per game and 0.25 aces per game. She had five double-doubles and recorded at least 20 kills in four matches during the year.
In the final seven matches of the 2002 regular season, Myers hit .459 and averaged 5.02 kills per game. She had career-highs in kills (26) and solo blocks (5) in Missouri's win over Kansas on Nov. 23. She had a career-high .714 hitting percentage on Sept. 14 against Eastern Illinois and set a career high with four service aces against Arkansas-Little Rock.
Myers is the career leader in hitting percentage at Mizzou with a .321 mark. She also holds the record for most block assists (362) and most total blocks (454) in a career. Myers is also second in career kills with 1,476, finishing just two shy of the all-time record at Mizzou. She is third in kills per game at MU (3.48), third in solo blocks (92) and third in blocks per game (1.07).
Myers was part of the 2002 senior class which set a record for most wins in a four-year span, finishing with a 79-55 record. This year's senior class also led MU to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament and its first-ever postseason win as it defeated Northwestern on Dec. 6 in the opening round of the tournament.
Earlier this month, Myers was named to the All-Big 12 Conference First Team and the AVCA All-Central Region Team. She was named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 in 2000 and 2001.
