On the final day of competition at the Minnesota Invitational, the men's swimming and diving team had an impressive performance, but it wasn't enough to move up in their position. For the first two days the men's team finished each day 4th place . The men's team finished in fourth with 553 points, trailing #8 Minnesota (1,126.50), Iowa (650.50) and #14 Wisconsin (642).
The men's team had a very strong third day. Radu Miclaus led the way with his 200 butterfly victory with a time of 1:50.13. Matt Ferrarelli kept up his strong weekend performance with a second place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:49.39).
Freshman Chris Lukas won the 200 backstroke consolation championship with a time of 1:49.78, his time is fourth best all-time. This is the first time that two swimmers have swam under 1:50.00 in the 200 backstroke in the same meet for the Tigers.
Tyler Belanger set a new personal best in the 100 freestyle with his fourth place finish time of 45.75. Justin Zeimetz won the 100 freestyle consolation championship with his time of 46.83. Senior Dane Pedersen finished fourth in the 1,650 freestyle (15:45.03). Matt North also placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with his personal best time of 2:04.68,
The Tigers ended the meet with a fourth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Belanger, Ryan Searby, Lukas and Zeimetz clocked in with a 3:04.81.
Senior Jamie Sweeney was the top Tiger male platform diver with his score of 400.00, which placed him ninth ahead of teammate Zac Metcalf (377.25) in a tough diving field.
The Tiger's will break for the Thanksgiving holiday before resuming their season against the University of Kentucky on December 7 in Lexington, Kentucky.
