Women's Swimming and Diving In 2nd Place After Day 1 of Minnesota Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Mn. - After Day 1 of the Minnesota Invitational, the women's swimming and diving team are in second place at the 23 team event. The 21st ranked women's team is in second with 178 points behind #14 Wisconsin (273) and ahead of host Minnesota and #16 Notre Dame.

Junior Andrea Nigh kept her individual event win streak alive by winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.37. Her streak now stands at eight straight individual event victories. In the morning preliminaries, Nigh clocked in with a season's best time of 23.29. Her prelim time is the fifth fastest in the country thus far and also provisionally qualifiers her for the NCAA's.

The women's team started the meet on a positive note placing second in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Nigh, Sarah Lo, Lindsay Palbykin and Ellen Cross ended up with a time of 1:35.33, the tenth best 200 free relay time in the country. The good start was overshadowed by an even better finish as the 400 medley relay "A" team (Lo, Tiffany Bohon, Liz Schoborg and Nigh) won with a time of 3:47.04 (10th best in the country). Not to be out doned the 400 medley relay "B" team (Amanda Morford, Mariona Costa, Becca Dawson and Cross) finished fourth with a time of 3:50.26.

The 200 individual medley finals had two Tigers set new personal bests, Lo finished fifth with a time of 2:05.46 and Megan Morford won the consolation championship with a time of 2:05.01. Senior Katy Chandler finished seventh in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:59.06. Junior Rebecca Wolfe won the consolation championship of the 500 freestyle by swimming a 4:55.48, the fourth fastest time in Tiger history.

The team returns to the pool tomorrow for Day 2 of the Invite. The start time is 12:00 pm for the prelims and 6:00 pm for the finals.
