SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Mizzou women's soccer team dropped out of the Big 12 Tournament after falling to Colorado 1-0 during the first round of play. The loss declines Missouri's record to 11-7-2.
The fourth seeded Tigers entered the tournament with a 5-4-1 conference record to top the No. 5 seeded Buffaloes in Big 12 play (4-4-2). During the 2002 regular season Missouri and Colorado fought to a 2-2 tie.
The two teams battled to a 0-0 standstill following the first half of play. The Buffaloes took eight shots in the first period, forcing four saves by Tiger goalkeeper Stephanie Krawczyk. Missouri was only able to get off two shots during the period.
The Tigers stepped up their game in the second half playing their typical physical style. Missouri found itself in difficulty however when forward and 2002 leading scorer Adriene Davis was given a second yellow card in the game early in the second half. The Buffaloes capitalized on the loss scoring the game's only goal on a Sunday shot by Fran Munnelly.
Even despite being down both a point and a player, the Tigers fought a valiant match taking seven shots in the second period. Pressuring the Colorado goal, Missouri took nine corner kicks, but was unable to capitalize.
Regardless of the tournament loss, Missouri looks to continue the season earning berth into the 2002 NCAA Tournament. Seeding for NCAA Regional competition will be aired on ESPN News on Mon., Nov. 11 at 3:30 p.m., CST.
