University of Missouri tennis star Urska Juric is playing exceptionally well at the Riviera All-American Championships in Los Angeles. The Mizzou junior lost in the first round of the main draw to Courtney Bergman of Harvard in three sets. However, in the back draw of the main draw she quickly rebounded to beat Dora Krstulovic of the University of Arizona 6-2, 6-1. Krstulovic is the 21st ranked player in the country, Juric is not yet ranked. Juric's success continued as she defeated Alexis Gordon of Florida, ranked 83rd in the country, 7-6(7-5), 6-0. Today, she beat Maureen Pirdou of Northwestern, who was ranked as high as 9th in the country last year, 6-2, 6-0. Mizzou tennis head coach Blake Starkey said, "We (Missouri) have never even been invited to this tournament and to do so well is just incredible." Juric had to win six consecutive matches just to make it into the main draw.
The Missouri doubles team of Juric and Katka Sevcikova also played well in the consolation draw of the championships. After dropping their first contest the duo has pulled off three consecutive victories. They beat Katie McGaffaghan and Laurie Mues of Wisconsin 8-6, they then defeated Rosa Perez and Patty Aburto of TCU 8-1.
