Another one falls: Missouri handed another nationally ranked team a loss in the Hearnes Center with its 82-71 win over Texas Tech Wednesday. Missouri defeated Colorado and Texas last season in the Hearnes Center.
Offensive rebounds:MU had a season-best 23 offensive rebounds Wednesday. The team's previous high mark of 18 came against UMKC (11/16) and Southeast Missouri (12/1).
Stop, thief!: Kerensa Barr had a season-best five steals Wednesday.
Free throws: Missouri made 23-of-32 free throws Wednesday, including 12-of-15 in the game's final three minutes and nine seconds. Kerensa Barr, who ranks second in the nation in free throw percentage, made all nine of her foul shots and went 6-of-6 in the final 49 seconds.
Balance: Missouri had four player scored 12 of more points. Barr led the way with 19 points while Natalie Bright and Evan Unrau each scored 12 points. Melanie Fisher netted 12 points.
First start: Freshman guard Lauren Podratz made her first-ever collegiate start.
Solid play: Missouri's bench contributed 19 points and 13 rebounds. Angie Carter (Fr., Longview, Texas) led the way for the reserves with eight points and a career-high seven rebounds.
Rebounds: Due to MU's 23 offensive rebounds, the Tigers held a 44-31 edge on the boards. Unrau and Fisher led the way with eight rebounds each while Barr and Carter each snared seven caroms.
Happy Birthday: Wednesday was the birthday of Jessica Jenkins, Missouri's director of women's basketball operations. Jenkins, who also provides color commentary on several of the Tigers' radio broadcasts, is one of several members of the MU program who celebrate January birthdays. Lauren Podratz (Jan. 3), student assistant coach Tracy Franklin (Jan. 15), Charliss Ridley (Jan. 18), student assistant coach Marlena 'Pep' Williams (Jan. 19), Wannette Smith (Jan. 20), Angie Carter (Jan. 20), Evan Unrau (Jan. 21) and head coach Cindy Stein (Jan. 22) also have birthdays in the calendar's first month. Natalie Bright (Dec. 26) just missed.
