Lawrence, Kan.. - The University of Missouri men's golf squad opened its 2002 fall season on Monday at the Kansas Men's Fall Invitational at Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan. The Tigers finished the first day of the two-day event in ninth place with a two-round total of 597 (296-301). Baylor has jumped out to 15-stroke lead in the tourney with a Day-1 tally of 564.
Senior Cory Ewert, whose score was not included in the Tigers Day 1 total because he did not qualify earlier in the week, put in the best round of the day (74-71-145) and is at +1 in the tournament. Junior Brandon Knaub turned in the poured in a par-72 in the opening round and a 75 in the second round for an opening day total of 147, just three strokes out of the top 10 and six strokes out of the top 5.
Junior transfer David Jenkins carded two rounds of 75 to finish the day tied for 35th with teammate and fellow junior Michael Radek, who shot rounds of 74 and 76 for a total of 150. Freshman Chris Mabry (T-42, 76-75-151) and senior Chris Happ (75-77-152) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers on the opening day of the tournament.
