Football Practice Report for Aug. 19th

Aug. 19, 2002

Columbia, Mo. - With the 2002 season opener just 11 days away, the Missouri Tigers continued fall camp with two practices in Columbia. Both sessions were held indoors due to soggy practice field conditions from weekend rains in the area.

The Tigers practiced in full pads during a morning workout in the Devine Pavilion. Offensive highlights included TD runs by QBs Kirk Farmer and Brad Smith, as well as by TB Mario Whitney, who returned to full contact after suffering a mild concussion in practice last week. TBs Zack Abron and T.J. Leon also ran strong and turned in nice gains.

In the afternoon, the Tigers practices in light pads and helmets. A good sight was provided by OS Dedrick Harrington, who practiced for the first time since spraining an ankle last Monday. He wore a red injury jersey, and was not full speed, but still participated in most drills and scrimmage situations. He even pulled in an interception off a batted pass.

Missouri continues preparations for its Aug. 31 opener vs. Illinois with a single practice Tuesday, and two more on Wednesday before holding its last pre-season scrimmage on Thursday. The Thursday scrimmage is at 10 a.m., but is closed to the public.
