Missouri track & field and cross country standout Ann Marie Brooks has been selected as one of 13 student-athletes to receive a 2001-2002 Postgraduate Scholarship from the Big 12 Conference. Brooks is the fourth Missouri student-athlete to receive the grant, and all four Missouri athletes to receive the scholarship since 1996-97 have been members of the Missouri track & field program.
"It's pretty cool that there's a committee that decided that I have potential past what I did what I did in school (at Missouri)," Brooks said. "I guess they saw a connection between what I did in school and how I performed as an athlete."
Brooks graduated this May with a cumulative grade point average of 4.01 as a plant science major and is a five-time All-American in track and cross country.
"Ann Marie Brooks is the consummate student-athlete," head track & field coach Rick McGuire said. "Five-time All-American, a 4.01 GPA, a team captain, she leads volunteering in the community and a wonderful person. What more could you ask for from anyone? I couldn't be happier for her."
To qualify for the scholarship, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.500 on a 4.0 scale, participation in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at the scholar-athlete's respective institution, and completion of the athlete's eligibility.
Brooks has already earned Verizon Academic-All District honors in 2002, was a Verizon Academic All-American last year, is a five-time Academic All-American and a two-time Verizon Academic All-District selection as a Tiger.
