COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri heads to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to face Southeast Missouri State Tuesday in a 5 p.m. game at Capaha Park. The Tigers, 23-24 overall, look to rebound from last week's 1-4 performance. Southeast Missouri State, leaders of the Ohio Valley Conference, are 25-15 this season. In the first matchup between these two teams this season, Southeast Missouri State defeated Missouri, 8-5, on April 2.
Last Time Out: No. 25 Oklahoma State handed the Tigers a 15-1 loss on May 5 to win the three-game Big 12 Conference series. After being held scoreless for three innings, OSU used five hits and four walks to score six runs in the fourth inning and pull away for the victory.
MU/Southeast Missouri Series: As a result of Southeast Missouri State winning the first game this season, Missouri leads the all-time series, 15-5. Missouri won both meetings in 2001 while Southeast Missouri State won both meetings in 2000.
On the Horizon: Missouri head coach Tim Jamieson needs one more win to record the 250th of his career. The Tigers are 249-189-1 during his eight seasons as head coach.
Hit Streak: Jayce Tingler extended his career-best hit streak to 23 games with a bunt single in the third inning against Oklahoma State on May 5. Tingler's streak, currently the longest in the Big 12 Conference, is three games shy of Missouri's school record. Tingler has at least one hit in 42 of Missouri's 47 games this season. Missouri's school record of 26 games was set by Shane Fairbanks in 1981 and tied by Grant Ingram in 1994.
Record Watch: The next stolen base for Jayce Tingler will tie him with Dave Silvestri (1986-88) for fourth place on MU's all-time career chart with 47 stolen bases. Tingler, who enters this week with 46 career swipes, moved into 10th place all-time in career runs after scoring three runs in the Oklahoma State series.
Here's a look at where Tingler stands and who is 10th or ranks above him:
Walks - Tingler, 120 / 9th, Nick Rallo (1983-86) 121
Hits - Tingler, 186 / 10th, Curt Brown (1974-78) 210
Runs - Tingler, 157 / 9th, Phil Bradley (1979-81) 161
Senior first baseman Mick Weiss, who has 23 career homers, needs one home run to tie Mark Thiel (24, 1974-76) for 10th place in that MU all-time career chart.
Next: Missouri plays Kansas State in a three-game Big 12 Conference series this weekend at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field in Columbia. Game one will be Friday at 6:30 p.m.
