Men's Track & Field Places Third

Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri men's track & field team tied its best conference meet finish Sunday at Walton Stadium as the Tigers finished in third place with 75 points.

The men also placed third at the 2001 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Nebraska men were first with 143 points and Texas was second with 95.5 points.

Kansas State was the Big 12 women's champion, as they edged out Texas by one point - the Wildcats had 121 points and the Longhorns finished with 120. Missouri placed ninth with 49 points.

Senior Ann Marie Brooks finished fifth in the women's 1500-meter run with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:23.01. Brooks also took second place in the women's 5000m run with a time of 16:20.40, good for a NCAA provisional-qualifying time.

Sophomore Janae Strickland took fourth in the women's shot put with a throw of 49-5.75, which is good for a NCAA provisional mark.

Sophomore Jennifer Bennett finished second in the women's pole vault with a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark of 12-8.75. Her mark is the Missouri outdoor record and Bennett's personal best.

Junior Russ Bell had an NCAA provisional-qualifying throw of 186-9 in the men's discus, finishing fourth in the event.

Four meet records and seven Walton Stadium records were set during Sunday's events.
