COLUMBIA, Mo. - The MU tennis team recorded a sweep over Eastern Illinois 7-0 on Sunday at the Green Tennis Center. The win gave the Tigers a weekend sweep, as they defeated Syracuse 4-3 on Saturday.
The Tigers swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point, then took all six of the singles matches.
"In time, Brian will build Eastern into a very solid team," MU Head Coach Blake Starkey said. "But this is his first year there, and his group fought hard, we were just stronger.
"After the doubles, we focused on how if you know you are stronger, barely winning is not your objective," Starkey added. "In these situations, you play to your level and never to someone else's - you literally expect to win and to win big. Otherwise, you haven't played to your ability. And in general, that's what we did. We'll have a good week of practice this week, and be ready for our final home match of the season. Next Saturday is senior day, and those are always special. Caitlin Thompson is our only senior, and we hope to have a crowd on hand to watch her play her final home match in a Tiger uniform."
Missouri improved to 10-10 on the season and will close out the regular season next Saturday against Oklahoma at 1 p.m. at the Green Tennis Center at Mizzou.
