COLUMBIA, Mo. - After hitting .500 and driving in 10 runs in four games, Missouri outfielder Lee Laskowski was named the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Week today in voting by a select panel of media covering Big 12 baseball for games played April 8-14.
Laskowski went 8-for-16 during the Tigers' four games, all against nationally ranked foes. He hit two doubles and one home run - a grand slam to give Missouri a 13-12 lead in the third game (a 16-12 win) of the three-game series against No. 10/14 Nebraska. Laskowski finished the game with seven RBI, one shy of the school record, as the Tigers downed Nebraska 16-12.
He is hitting .383 this season and that figure ranks fourth among the Big 12 batting average leaders. Laskowski had two-or-more hits in three of last week's contests and now has a team-best 18 multi-hit games this season.
For the season, he has nine doubles, three home runs and 31 RBI. Laskowski has gotten a hit in 17 of his last 18 games.
Laskowski was previously named Big 12 Player of the Week on March 19, 2001.
Missouri, 16-18 overall, plays nationally ranked SMS Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. On Wednesday, MU plays Saint Louis at 6:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. The Tigers return to Big 12 Conference play against Kansas Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. Games two and three of the series will be played at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kan.
