Tigers Hold Second Scrimmage

April 13, 2002

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers held their second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday morning at Memorial Stadium. The Mizzou offense scored three touchdowns in the scrimmage while the Missouri defense continued to make big plays as it has all spring.

Senior quarterback Kirk Farmer engineered two of the Missouri touchdowns. Farmer hit wide receiver Justin Gage for a 4-yard touchdown pass to cap off a 10-play drive. Junior tight end J.D. McCoy caught two big passes on the drive while running back Zack Abron had two rushes of over five yards.

Farmer's second touchdown pass was a 10-yard pass to tight end Clint Matthews in the red zone portion of the scrimmage. Reshirt freshman Brad Smith threw one touchdown pass on the day, connecting with wide receiver Darren Baldwin during the red zone scrimmage.

The Missouri defense continued to stand out. The defense stalled a 12-play drive by the offense early in the scrimmage. Senior defensive tackle Cedric Harden made a tackle in the backfield on one second-down play, and then batted down a Brad Smith pass on the very next play. After Smith hit wide receiver Tay Jackson for an 11-yard gain on 4th-and-10, Harden made another play in the backfield.

Also standing out for the Tigers defensively was linebacker James Kinney. Kinney made several bone-crunching tackles, while intercepting a pass and recovering a fumble. Linebacker Orlando Gooden and outside safety Gary Anthony also had interceptions on the day.

The Tigers will practice on Tuesday and Thursday before wrapping up the spring with the Black and Gold Game next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
