COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri baseball team will play a Big 12 Conference series this weekend with games scheduled against:
*18/19 Texas, 6:30 p.m., Friday
*18/19 Texas, 2 p.m., Saturday
*18/19 Texas, 1 p.m., Sunday
Last Time Out: Missouri split a two-game series with Arkansas State, winning 8-3 on Tuesday before dropping a 15-10 decision on Wednesday.
MU/UT Series: Texas won two of three games last season against Missouri and leads the series, 11-10. The first meeting between the two schools came in 1905 with Missouri recording a 6-0 win.
In 2001 vs. Texas: Missouri suffered a 9-2 loss in the opener before recording a 10-6 win in game two. The Tigers plated a run in the first inning before scoring six times in the second inning and recording the win. However in game three, Texas took advantage of four errors in the first three innings as it built an 8-0 lead on the way to a 13-0 victory. UT scored seven runs in the third inning, all unearned.
Texas Notes: The Longhorns, ranked 18th by Collegiate Baseball, are 16-6 overall but 2-4 in Big 12 play.
Who's Hot? Jayce Tingler and Ryan Rallo not only are one-two in the Tigers' lineup but they're also one-two when looking at MU's top hitters in the last five games. Tingler, who is riding a 14-game hit streak, is hitting .435 during that stretch while Rallo is hitting .391 with a team-high three doubles. Jody Roughton is hitting .348 with two home runs and nine runs batted in during MU's last five outings.
Who's Hot II? Jayce Tingler is hitting .429 during his 14-game hit streak. Tingler's career-best streak is 15 games, set in the 2000 campaign. Hit streaks of 10-or-more games is nothing new for Tingler, who also had an 11-game hit streak in 2001. The best recent hit streak is Ryan Stegall's 18-game streak in 2001.
Setting The Table: Luke Cassis and Jayce Tingler have been outstanding when leading off an inning. Cassis has led off an inning 16 times this season and reached base 10 times while Tingler has led off 26 times and reached in 14 trips. While he has not led off an inning as much as the previous two individuals, Lee Laskowski is also a threat when leading off an inning, reaching base eight times in 11 appearances.
Tough With Two: Jody Roughton and Cody Ehlers have been tough with two outs this season. Roughton is hitting .458 this season with two outs this season while Ehlers is hitting .346. Each player has driven in 10 runs with two outs.
Hits: Chris Julo had five hits in Missouri's 20-4 win over William Woods (Mo.) on March 6. Julo's performance were the most hits any MU player has had in a game since J.R. Warner had five hits against Centenary on Feb. 2, 2000.
Hit Men: As a team, Missouri is hitting .326. Cody Ehlers leads the regulars with a .420 batting average. Jody Roughton is hitting .411 while Jayce Tingler and Lee Laskowski are hitting .379 and .365, respectively.
Among Big 12's Best: Missouri's .328 batting average ranks fourth in the Big 12 Conference ... Cody Ehlers ranks sixth with his .418 batting average. Ehlers ranks second in home runs (7), sixth in total bases (3.50/per game) and third in slugging percentage (.891). Jody Roughton can also be found among the Big 12 leaders as he is 15th in batting (.391) and fifth in RBI (21, 1.40 rbi/g). Jayce Tingler is 10th in hitting (.403) and fourth in runs scored (25, 1.67 r/g). Lee Laskowski is 19th in hitting at .373. In per game averages, Tingler is first in runs scored/game while Ehlers is first in home runs/game.
