COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri men's swimming and diving team will be represented at the 2002 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. Junior Radu Miclaus has qualified for the NCAA meet in the 200 butterfly.
Miclaus, a native of Sibiu, Romania, is seeded No. 25 in the 200 butterfly. He will also have a chance to swim the 100 butterfly. The meet will take place beginning Thursday, March 28 on the campus of the University of Texas.
"I am really happy for Radu," said Head Coach Brian Hoffer. "We were somewhat surprised that he was able to make the meet. He was really on the bubble, but what a great thing for our program."
Miclaus becomes the second NCAA qualifier on the men's squad in the last two years. Fellow junior Matt Ferrarelli was an NCAA qualifier last year in the 200 and 400 individual medley. He probably would have had a chance to join Miclaus this year, but a fractured elbow late in the season sidelined Ferrarelli for the rest of the season.
Hoffer will be busy the next two weeks. Freshman Amanda Morford will represent the Missouri women's team at the NCAA Championships next weekend in Athens, Ga. She qualified in the 100 backstroke.
