Feb. 11, 2002
Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri men's basketball game Wednesday at Nebraska will not be televised. Athletic Department efforts to get the game shown as part of the statewide Mizzou Sports Network were unsuccessful in negotiations with Nebraska.
As per Big 12 Conference policy, no league game can be shown on a third-tier basis and go up against the broadcast window of league telecasts. Two Big 12 games that night (Colorado at Iowa State and Oklahoma at Oklahoma State) are being shown on the Big 12 package (ESPN-Regional) at 8 p.m. The MU-Nebraska game could have avoided this conflict by tipping off at 6 p.m., so as to avoid the league window, but Nebraska was not interested in moving the tip time from 7:05 p.m.
The game will be just one of two all season that will have no television coverage - Dec. 6 vs. Southern University was the other. Three of MU's final five games will be on national television - Feb. 17 vs. Texas (ABC), Feb. 25 vs. Oklahoma State (ESPN) and March 3 vs. Kansas (CBS). The others - Feb. 20 at Texas Tech and Feb. 23 at Colorado - will be shown on Mizzou Sports Network and ESPN-Regional, respectively.
Missouri continues to be among the leaders in television coverage in the Big 12 Conference. League-leading Kansas has two games this season with no television, tied for the lowest number in the conference with Mizzou. The next lowest numbers come from Texas Tech (five not televised), Iowa State and Texas (six each) and Oklahoma (seven). Numbers from other league schools include: Oklahoma State (16 not televised), Colorado (18), Baylor and Kansas State (19 each), Texas A&M (20) and Nebraska (21).
