Tigers Open Practice Sunday

Jan. 26, 2002

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri baseball team will begin practice in preparation for the 2002 baseball season Sunday afternoon. If the weather continues to cooperate, it will be held at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. If not, practice will move to the Devine Pavilion. Head coach Tim Jamieson enters his eighth season with the Tigers. He has led MU to six consecutive seasons of 30 or more wins.

Missouri will be led by a seven-member senior class and other key returnees such as outfielder Jayce Tingler (Jr., Smithville, Mo.). Tingler was recently named the Big 12 Conference's best baserunner in a poll of league coaches by Baseball America. That publication also stated Abel Newton (Fr., Pitcher, Russellville, Ark.) is one of the top five newcomers to the Big 12 this season.
