
Oklahoma Uses Long Ball To Down Tigers

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Missouri baseball team saw the Oklahoma Sooners hit four doubles and four home runs Saturday and record a 13-9 victory in Big 12 Conference action at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
OU finished with 17 hits while the Tigers had 12 hits in a windy day as the wind blew 20 to 30 miles per hour from the southwest.
After Oklahoma scored three runs in the first inning, Missouri answered with three runs of its own. Jayce Tingler led off the inning with a double before Lee Laskowski and Mick Weiss each walked. Tingler and Laskowski each scored on an error before Weiss scored on a single by Kurt Propst.
Oklahoma took a 4-3 lead in the third inning before the Tigers used four hits to score four times in the bottom half of the frame. Mick Weiss led off the inning with a home run to right-center field. With one out, Wes Fewell and Propst singled. Cody Ehlers hit into a fielder's choice to score Fewell before Luke Cassis singled. Propst scored on a balk before Tingler hit a sacrifice fly to score Ehlers and make it 7-4.
The Sooners answered with a grand slam home run by Jason Bartlett in the fourth inning. The Sooners used a solo home run by John Erick Munneke in the fifth inning to take a 9-7 lead. OU scored three times in the sixth inning, two coming on a home run by Charlie Frasier for a 12-7 lead.
Missouri scored two runs in the sixth inning. Tingler walked and scored on a double by Laskowski. Laskowski scored on a single by Fewell to make it 12-9.
OU used a solo homer by Greg Dobbs to take a 13-9 lead in the eighth and made it stand up for the final score.
Laskowski, Weiss, Fewell and Propst each had two hits for the Tigers.
Missouri is now 20-13-1 overall and 7-10 in the Big 12 while Oklahoma improves to 13-22 overall and 7-10 in league play.
The two teams conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
