
Tiger Offense Impressive in Black and Gold Game

COLUMBIA, Mo.- Junior quarterback Kirk Farmer tossed three touchdown passes and the Missouri Tigers came out injury free in Saturday's Black and Gold football game at Memorial Stadium. With a make-shift scoring system that awarded points to the defense for three-and-outs and points for a first down for the offense, the Tigers' offense prevailed by a score of 48-20.
Farmer, who has been saddled with injuries each of the last two seasons, connected on 7-of-10 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns. Farmer hit Tay Jackson (3 catches, 63 yards) for two touchdown passes and threw another 29-yard strike to Marcus James. Farmer longest pass of the game was a 52-yard bomb down the sidelines to Justin Gage (3 catches, 83 yards).
Missouri quarterbacks Farmer, Darius Outlaw and Brock Harvey combined for 290 passing yards while the Tigers gained 166 yards on the ground. Zack Abron led the ground attack with 8 carries for 59 yards while Zain Gilmore carried 11 times for 41 yards and a touchdown.
The other offensive highlight of the day was a 56-yard field goal by kicker Brad Hammerich. Hammerich's career-long field goal is 48 yards.
Defensively, the Missouri first team defense held the Tigers' second team offense scoreless. The defense held the offense to 5 three-and-outs. Starting linebackers Sean Doyle and Jamonte Robinson each had a big hit, including a two-yard tackle for loss by Robinson. Backups James Kinney and Sean Ain were the leading tacklers for the Missouri defense with six a piece. The defense dropped the MU quarterbacks for four sacks on the day.
