
Tigers Down Baylor 5-4 In 10 Innings

WACO, Texas -- The University of Missouri baseball team rallied to defeat Baylor 5-4 in 10 innings after losing 12-2 in seven innings in the first contest Sunday at the Baylor Ballpark in Big 12 conference action. The first game was the completion of Saturday's suspended game. The start of Saturday's game was delayed by five hours due to rain and then was suspended in the first inning due to fog covering the field.
The Tigers, 4-7-1 overall and 1-5 in the Big 12, while Baylor is 14-5 and 4-2.
Baylor 12, Missouri 2 The Bears drew first blood in the first game, scoring one run but stranded three runners in the first frame. BU opened the second inning with six straight hits on its way to a nine-run outburst. Baylor used seven hits, two Missouri errors and two walks to fuel the explosion.
Mizzou picked up a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Ryan Rallo opened the frame with a walk. He moved to second on a single by Mick Weiss. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Kurt Propst drove in Rallo with a single to right field. Weiss scored on a sacrifice fly by Wes Fewell to cut the Tigers' deficit to 10-2. The Bears got back-to-back two-out doubles to add a run and make it 11-2. Back-to-back hits to open the seventh inning gave Baylor a 12-2 lead and the win due to the 10-run rule.
Missouri 5, Baylor 4 (10) After Baylor scored to take a 1-0 lead after one inning, Missouri answered. Wes Fewell doubled with two outs. Fewell came around to score when Ryan Rallo reached on an error. MU took a 2-1 lead when Mick Weiss singled to open the fourth inning. He came around to score on a single to left field by Rallo. Baylor answered with a pair of runs in its half of the inning, using two hits and two sacrifice flies to take a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers tied the game in the fifth inning. Jayce Tingler walked to open the inning and moved to second and eventually to third base on infield outs. Tingler came around to score on a single by Weiss.
Baylor took a 4-3 lead after a leadoff double by Chris Durbin in the sixth inning. Durbin advanced to third on a passed ball and would score on a sacrifice fly - the third of the game for BU.
Missouri used a leadoff double in the seventh inning to tie the game at four. Luke Cassis doubled down the left-field line and moved to third on a sacrifice by Tingler. Ryan Stegall drove in Cassis with a single to center.
MU took a 5-4 lead in the 10th inning as Jon Williams doubled to open the frame. He came around to score on a single to center by Weiss.
The Tigers held off Baylor in the bottom of the 10th as Stegall recorded his second save of the season.
Missouri is scheduled to face nationally ranked Wichita State at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
