Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri softball team (18-17) faced Nebraska (24-9) again Sunday, looking for redemption after a 4-1 loss to the Huskers Saturday in 11 innings. The Tigers would not find that redemption, losing 5-1 to the No. 18 Huskers.
In the top of the second the Huskers had the bases loaded and one out when Danelle Arnold singled down the right field line, scoring a run. Lindsey Jacoby then threw out a runner at home to save a run, but two more would score off a wild pitch by Stephanie Falk and an error by Mary McGrane before the inning ended.
In the top of the third, Husker Jamie Fuente doubled to center field, then advanced home on an error by rightfielder Heather Allister. An inning later, the Huskers scored another run when second baseman Leigh Suhr singled to right field, driving in Peaches James.
In the fifth, the Tigers attempted to start a rally when rightfielder Heather Allister singled to right field. Two batters later, Sara Vassmer hit a single to third base that advanced Allister to second. The next batter, Karen Williams, hit an RBI single to the shortstop that drove in Allister, but Rachael McGinnis would strike out to end the inning with only one Tiger run.
Falk started the game, but was relieved by Ingrid Werner in the fourth after giving up three hits and four runs in three innings of work. Werner pitched four innings, allowing four hits and one run.
The Tigers are back in action Tuesday, March 27, at 5 p.m. as they travel to Norman to take on No. 5 Oklahoma in a doubleheader. This marks the first outing of the Tigers' annual spring break trip, where they will also face Texas-San Antonio and the Texas Longhorns before returning to Columbia.
