
Mizzou Travels To Iowa State

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri will continue its road tour with a stop in Iowa for the Cyclone Invitational hosted by Iowa State. The two-day ISU meet will start Feb. 9.
At last year's Cyclone Invitational (ISU Classic), four individual Tigers and two relay teams posted provisional qualifying marks. In the women's 800m, Ashley Wysong and Sunny Gilbert finished in first and fourth place respectively. Derrick Peterson took first while teammate Timothy Dunne came in second in the men's 800m. The women's distance medley relay team took the top spot and their counterparts on the men's side finished fourth.
Three Tigers Provisionally Qualify, Four Individuals Win At The Meyo Invitational
The University of Missouri track and field team completed in two days of competition at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational Feb. 2-3.
Sophomore Christian Cantwell won the men's weight throw (67-7.50) and recorded another NCAA provisional qualifying mark. He qualified automatically for the NCAA Championships at the Triangular Jan. 26.
Senior high jumper Jay Meystedt and junior miler Ann Marie Brooks also turned in provisional marks. Meystedt won the high jump at 7-1, while Brooks took the mile in 4:45.04. She was followed by sophomore Kerry Hils (4:49.07) and senior Katie Meyer (4:57.08). Also winning for the Tigers was junior Brooke Ennen won the women's weight throw with a mark of 49-1. Senior Michelle Moran, who won the high jump at 5-7. Sophomore Christi Myers (5-5) was second, senior Eli Sommerfeldt (5-1) was fourth and sophomore Abbe Ohneck (5-1) was fifth.
Cantwell also recorded a provisional mark in the shot put (58-4.5) and took second. He was followed by fellow sophomore Russ Bell (55-9.25). Senior Sunny Gilbert placed third in the 800m (2:09.68), sophomores Amy Semith and Fiona Asigbee turned in fourth place performances in the 1000m and the 60 low hurdles respectively.
Wysong Receives WIN Award
Senior Ashley Wysong received the Women's Intersport Network Collegiate Sportswoman of the Year Award Feb. 2. A four-time All-American, she is the daughter of Kathi and Tim Wysong of Nevada, Mo. Ashley is a Conley Scholar and has been accepted into the MU Medical School. She is the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is the Big 12 SAAC representative.

Sophomore Christian Cantwell recorded provisional marks in the weight throw for the third week in a row. It is also the second straight week that he recorded provisional marks in both the weight (67-7.50) and the shot put (58-4.50). Currently, Cantwell has the third best weight throw in the nation (70-3.75). He also has the ninth best shot put in the nation (60-0). The other half of the sophomore throws tandem, Russ Bell, is fourth in the Big 12 and 20th nationally in the shot put (58-1.75).
Brooks Keeps Big Blingin'
Ann Marie Brooks is one of two Tigers to qualify in two events (Christian Cantwell is the other). Brooks, who was named Big 12 Female Athlete of the Week Jan. 22, provisionally qualified in the 3000m (9:28.83) at the Triangular Jan. 26. She recorded a provisional qualifying time in the mile (4:45.04) at the Meyo Invitational Feb. 3.
More Bounce To The Ounce
Senior high jumper Jay Meystedt cleared the seven foot mark for the first time this season. He is in a three-way tie for first in the Big 12 Conference. He is also in a tie for 10th place nationally, about five inches off the national lead.
On the women's side of things, senior multi-event specialist Michelle Moran is also among conference leaders in the high jump. She won the Meyo high jump with a mark of 5-7, which is also the seventh best mark in the Big 12.
Coach's Corner
MU Head Coach Rick McGuire (St. Lawrence University, 1969) is in his 18th year coaching the Tigers. The 2000 Big 12 Conference Indoor Coach of the Year, McGuire has guided 25 Missouri tracksters to 66 All-American honors. He has been inducted into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Drake Relays Hall of Fame and has been a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic staffs.
McGuire is joined on the sidelines this season by assistant coaches Brett Halter (8th year), Jared Wilmes (1st year), Rebecca Wilmes (2nd year), Matt Candrl (1st year) and Chad Shade (1st year).
