
Missouri Women To Hold Scrimmage Tonight

This Week: The Missouri women's basketball team will play a pair of contests this week as the Tigers prepare to open the 2001-2002 season.
Here's a quick look at the events:
*TONIGHT, 7 p.m., Scrimmage
*Friday, 7 p.m., Exhibition against Lincoln
Tiger Night of Terror: Tonight's scrimmage will be part of the "Tiger Night of Terror."
From 5 to 7 p.m. there will be various games and trick-or-treating in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse.
At 7 p.m., Missouri will hold a scrimmage, lasting approximately 30 minutes. Following the scrimmage, the annual costume contest will take place.
The "Tiger Night of Terror" is sponsored by the Missouri Athletic Department and the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department. It is free to the public.
Wednesday will also serve as MU's "Select-A-Seat" for women's basketball as fans can purchase available seats for the upcoming season.
Exhibition Season: MU faces Lincoln (Mo.) University in an exhibition game Friday at the Hearnes Center.
Missouri will be in action against the Houston Jaguars on Nov. 9 in the Tigers' final exhibition game of the season. That game will also start at 7 p.m.
Missouri Head Coach Cindy Stein Is in her fourth season at the helm of the Tigers' program. She has a mark of 53-36 with Missouri and is 118-61 in seven seasons as a head coach. Stein is assisted this season by: Associate Head Coach Betsy Yonkman, Assistant Coach Tanya Warren and Assistant Coach Edith Thompson. Former Missouri standouts Amanda Lassiter, Marlena "Pep" Williams and Tracy Franklin are serving as student assistants.
MU will hold a Basketball Basics clinic (for women only) on Nov. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hearnes Center. Head Coach Cindy Stein and her staff will conduct the clinic. Former players Marlena "Pep" Williams and Tracy Franklin will be in attendance. Tickets are $25 with proceeds going toward the Tiger Send-A-Kid program. Refreshments will be provided. Tickets are available for the upcoming season. Call 884-PAWS (7297) in Columbia or 1-800-CAT-PAWS (228-7297). Season tickets are only $50 for adults and $25 for youth/seniors. Family plans are available for $125 (two adults and two children). Single game general admission tickets are currently on sale. Adult general admission tickets are $5 with youth/senior general admission tickets costing $3.
Rankings: Missouri has been picked by both the Big 12 Conference coaches and the media covering the league to finish 10th in the 2002 league standings.
The Tigers have been picked 43rd nationally by Basketball News, a publication which chose the schools it feels will make the 2002 NCAA Tournament.
Regular Season: Missouri opens the 2001-2002 season on Nov. 16 against UMKC. The game, which is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip, will be played at UMKC's Swinney Recreation Center.
The Mizzou Sports Network is broadcasting the contest. Please check your local TV listings to watch the game in your area.
KFRU (1400 AM), the flagship of the Tiger Sports Network, will also broadcast the contest with David Lile handling the play-by-play duties. Jessica Jenkins, MU's director of basketball operations, will provide color commentary.
Radio Coverage: Missouri women's basketball is covered live on KFRU radio. David Lile, Gary Link and Jessica Jenkins offer all the action of Tiger women's hoops on 1400 AM.
Mizzou fans can also log onto the Missouri web site, www.mutigers.com, for coverage.
Television Coverage: The Tigers will be on TV six times for the regular season. Missouri's first two games, UMKC and Southwest Missouri State, will both be shown on the Mizzou Sports Network.
Missouri will be on Fox Sports Net three times (Kansas, Jan. 12, Texas A&M, Feb. 16, and Oklahoma, Feb. 23).
The Missouri/Kansas game on Feb. 9 will be on the Mizzou Sports Network.
Missouri posted an 8-4 mark last season on TV.
