Missouri Women's Basketball Ranked 10th by Big 12 Media

DALLAS, Texas - The University of Missouri women's basketball team, ranked 10th in the 2001-2002 league preseason poll, was picked 10th in the 2001-2002 Big 12 preseason media poll, the conference office announced today.

Missouri received 72 points from the Big 12 media. Oklahoma was chosen as the preseason favorite by the league media. The Sooners, who received 212 points and tallied 17 first-place votes, were followed by Texas Tech (186 pts.) and Iowa State (178 pts.). Baylor (157 pts.) and Colorado (147 pts.) rounded out the top five. The media also selected a preseason player, newcomer, and freshman of the year in addition to a preseason All-Big 12 squad.

Oklahoma's Stacey Dales is the media's choice for Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year honors went to Keasha Cannon of Nebraska and Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year was Katie Robinette of Nebraska.

The Preseason All-Big 12 Team consisted of seniors Dales, Angie Welle (ISU), Sheila Lambert (BU), Danielle Crockrom (BU) and junior Plenette Pierson (TTU). Junior guard Kerensa Barr was listed among others receiving votes toward the team.

The Tigers will play a scrimmage Wednesday during Missouri's Tiger Night of Terror celebration.

Missouri opens its exhibition schedule Friday with a 7 p.m. contest against Lincoln (Mo.).
