DALLAS -- Iowa State's Nicole Wilcox and Karen Hasselman, and Missouri's Mandy Waters were chosen as Big 12 Soccer Players of the Week by the conference office Tuesday.
Wilcox was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after she took 16 shots and scored four goals in Iowa State's two Big 12 wins last weekend that clinched a spot in the Big 12 Tournament. The sophomore forward from Battle Ground, Wash., earned her second career hat trick in the win over Texas Tech. She also scored the game-winner unassisted against Colorado. The four goals move Wilcox into a fifth-place tie on the ISU all-time goal scoring list with 13 and the 16 shots put her into fifth on the all-time ISU shots list with 115.
Waters was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. The senior defender from Olathe, Kan., helped the Tigers hold Baylor to just nine shots and Arkansas-Little Rock to four shots in two wins last weekend. Waters also exhibited her offensive flare by sinking two unassisted goals against UALR. She leads the defensive line with eight points this season on two goals and four assists.
Hasselman was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after she gave up just one goal and made 12 saves in ISU's two wins. The freshman goalkeeper from Broken Arrow, Okla., made all six of her saves vs. CU in the second half as the Buffs rallied to try to tie the score. Hasselman has totaled 75 saves this season and owns a goals-against average of 1.79 through 15 games. The shutout over Colorado was her third of the season.
The Big 12 wraps up regular season play this Friday and Sunday. The Big 12 Tournament will be held Nov. 8, 9 and 11 in San Antonio, Texas.
