Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The University of Missouri women's golf team wrapped up its 2001 fall season by posting its strongest finish yet, as the Tigers placed 3rd in a strong 17-team field at the Alabama Capstone Intercollegiate, which wrapped up today at the Capstone Club in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Missouri shot a team round of 313 Sunday, which continued a progression of improved play for MU through the tournament. Head Coach Stephanie Cooper's Tigers opened play Friday with a team score of 334, then followed with a team round of 325 Saturday prior to Sunday's improvement. Missouri's three-round total of 972 left them alone in 3rd place, just one stroke behind 2nd-place Minnesota. Previously, MU's best finish this fall was an 8th-place showing at The Legends in Indiana earlier this month.
A pair of Tigers led the way individually, as senior Nisha Sadekar and junior Elin Ohlsson each shot three-round totals of 235 to tie for 3rd place. Sadekar shot a final-round 77 on Sunday, after opening with rounds of 80 and 78, to mark the best finish of her career.
Ohlsson shot a six-over par 78 Sunday, after shooting round of 78 and 79, and likewise surpassed her previous best career finish. The duo finished just four shots back of individual winner Sarah Johnston of host Alabama, who won with a three-round score of 231.
Next up was another pair of Tigers, as sophomore Annie Schlosser and freshman Mindy Bullard tied for 32nd place overall, with three-round scores of 251. Freshman Maria Ohlsson improved for the second straight day, as she closed her tournament with an 87 Sunday, and finished 85th overall with a total of 278.
