
Missouri Falls to No. 12 Ranked Texas 1-0

Columbia, Mo.--Audrey J. Walton Soccer Complex hosted a premier battle of two of the nation's best teams. The Missouri Tigers and the Texas Longhorns fought through a scoreless first half in one of the most exciting games Mizzou fans have seen all season.
The Tigers started five newcomers against the No. 12th ranked team in the nation. The youngsters proved to be a capable match keeping Texas to just five shots in the first period. Both teams displayed offensive prowess matched with solid defensive efforts. Dyana Russell and Mandy Waters highlighted as MU's dynamic duo in the backfield and defensive center midfielder Lacy Moore stepped up for Missouri's protective and attacking efforts. Missouri had two shots in the first half.
Missouri reentered the second period with a fierce pace pumping on all cylinders from the kickoff. Both teams continued to play at a fierce pace. Russell played her best minutes of the 2001 season proving once again to be one of the finest defensive players in the country. She kept Texas scoring leader Kelly Wilson from taking a single shot in the match. She also anchored the MU defensive line that kept the longhorns to just six shots on goal.
After a long struggle the Longhorns cinched the game. Katie McBain lobbed a cross to Michelle Wickwire enabling a quick inside pass and a goal by Nicole Berger. Despite a heavy offensive push, Missouri was unable to tie the score in the remaining minutes of play.
The loss drops Mizzou to 9-5 on the season with a 4-3 Big 12 Conference record. Texas leads the league with a perfect 6-0 conference performance. The Longhorns are 8-3 on the year.
Missouri goalkeeper Megan Duncan picks up the loss dropping her season record to 7-4. She allowed just one goal in the game while making five saves.
The Tigers return to Big 12 action on Sun., Oct. 21 at 12:00 p.m., when they host No. 17 ranked Texas A&M at Walton Soccer Complex.
