Brooks Leads Cross Country Teams at Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior Ann Marie Brooks' ninth-place finish led the way for the No. 15 University of Missouri women's cross country team Saturday at the Roy Griak Invitational. Brooks, who finished the 6K in 21:12.9, led the Tigers to a 13th place finish. Brooks had the best performance of the day for the Missouri men's and women's teams.

"(Brooks) did a great job -- having that leadership really helps," head coach Jared Wilmes said. "We were really pleased with how the women's team finished."

Junior Amy Chipman finished 46th (22:00.2), freshman Serena Ramsey was 101st, freshman Jill Petersen was 103rd, junior Kimberly Moore was 121st, senior Becky Froekler was 177th and sophomore Katherine Bonugli was 178th to round out the scoring for the women. Arizona State, the nation's 11th ranked team, won the event with 109 points. Washington senior Sabrina Monro claimed the individual title with a time of (20:12.9).

The men's cross country team finished 29th of 36 teams. Senior Mike Pitts placed 21st (24:42.4) overall to lead the men in scoring.

Other Tigers participating were senior Ryan Fitzgerald (158), senior Steve Wade (191), sophomore Ryan Hampton (210), freshman Josh Davis (221), junior Timothy Dunne (232) and freshman Miles Brown (236). The University of Wisconsin men won the race with 129 points. Wisconsin freshman Matt Tegenkamp led all runners with a time of 23:58.0.

"This was a great experience for our teams," Wilmes said. "That's the most important thing from this weekend."
