COLUMBIA, Mo. -- University of Missouri's Ann Marie Brooks was a first-team selection to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Spring Women's At-Large Team while Ashley Wysong was a third-team pick. The spring team consists of student-athletes competing in outdoor track and field, golf, tennis, lacrosse and crew.
Brooks, a native of St. Joseph, Mo., was also named as a first-team pick to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Fall/Winter Women's At-Large Team. Brooks is a two-time All-American and currently holds a 4.01 grade-point average in plant science.
Wysong, a native of Nevada, Mo., holds a 3.85 GPA in pre-medicine.
At the 2001 NCAA Championships, Brooks ran the 1,500 in 4:19.14 to finish in fifth place and earn her third All-American career honor. She also posted a time of 16:24.18 in the 5,000 to place 15th. Brooks won the 5,000 at the 2001 Big 12 Championships.
Wysong finished fourth in the 800 at the 2001 Big 12 Championships.
The Verizon Academic All-America Teams are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible, an athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Sports information directors nominate eligible student-athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted on the national level. CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-America Teams since 1952.
