Red Raiders sweep Tigers

April 22, 2001

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri softball team (25-23, 4-9 Big 12) could not redeem themselves Sunday, falling to Texas Tech (30-18, 8-6 Big 12), 1-0. The Tigers lost the first game of the series Saturday, 1-0.

Mizzou could not get anything started offensively, with designated player Melanie Fisher scoring the only hit of the day for the Tigers. The only MU highlight of the day was on defense, when third baseman Rachael McGinnis caught a line drive and rifled a throw over to first base to catch a base runner for a double play. Stephanie Falk pitched her 27th complete game, allowing five hits and walking one in 25 batters faced.

In the fifth inning, the Red Raiders recorded the only run of the game as Amanda Douglas crossed home on a ground ball single by Tracy Cartier.

Missouri breaks from conference action this Tuesday as they travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to take on the Indians of Southeast Missouri State University. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
