Ferrarelli Doesn't Advance in 200 IM at NCAA Championships

March 22, 2001

COLUMBIA, Mo.- Missouri sophomore swimmer MATT FERRARELLI will have to wait until Friday for a chance to score at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in College Station, Texas. Ferrarelli finished 42nd in the 200 individual medley on Thursday afternoon in preliminary action. Ferrarelli's time of 1:49.91 was well short of his 1:47.45 that he posted 22 days ago at the Big 12 Championships.

Texas and Stanford will each have three swimmers in the top eight of the 200 IM in the finals tonight.

Ferrarelli will be in the pool tomorrow afternoon when he attempts to advance in his best event, the 400 individual medley. Ferrarelli won the 400 IM at the Big 12 Championships and enters the meet with the 13th fastest time in the country. He will have to post one of the top 16 times in the prelims in order to advance and to become an All-American.

Ferrarelli also has the 200 backstroke on the schedule this Saturday.
