Tigers Lose 1-0 Versus Michigan And 6-0 Versus DePaul At The Leadoff Classic

Feb. 24, 2001

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The University of Missouri softball team went 0-2 in the second day of the Leadoff Classic bringing its weekend record to 1-3 and its overall record to 5-9.

In the first game of the day and the last game of pool play, the Tigers fell to the University of Michigan 1-0. Senior pitcher Stephanie Falk pitched a great game allowing only three hits and one walk in seven innings of work. Unfortunately for Mizzou, one of those hits was a solo home run by Wolverine leftfielder Melinda Moulden, which would prove to be all Michigan needed to hold on for the victory.

Missouri faced DePaul University in the first game of bracket play. MU was tough early, holding the Blue Demons scoreless in the first three innings. Junior catcher Mary McGrane made a key out in the first, picking off Liz Bouck as she attempted to steal second base. DePaul scored two early in the fourth and with two outs, the Blue Demons' Sarah Douglas hit a three-run single to right field. DePaul scored again in the fifth to secure the 6-0 win.

Missouri faces ninth-ranked Fresno State Sunday at 9:00 a.m. The Bulldogs beat the Tigers 2-0 Friday in pool play.
