Columbia, Mo.-The University of Missouri women's soccer program has announced the hiring of new first-year assistant coach Mikki Denney.
"Mikki has a tremendous drive that will be a great asset to our program," MU Head Coach Bryan Blitz said. "She has overwhelming enthusiasm and passion for the game and the team is very excited to get to work with someone with that kind of attitude. I see her contributing great things to our program," he added.
Denny comes to MU from the University of Nebraska-Omaha where she served as a first-year assistant last season. She helped the Mavericks to a 16-5 overall record. Along with everyday coaching operations, Denney's main responsibilities with the Nebraska-Omaha program included practice planning and recruiting coordinator.
A native of Omaha, Neb., Denney graduated from Marian High School in 1992, where she earned all-Nebraska soccer team honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. Denney played collegiate ball at both the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She helped UNC to two national and two conference championships. She also received Atlantic Coast Conference all-academic honors in 1993. Denney transferred to Minnesota where she led her squad to a Big 10 Conference championship. She started every game in her two-year career as a Golden Gopher and received all-conference honors.
Denney earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Minnesota in 1997, where she also became a certified drug and alcohol counselor. In 1999, she earned a master's degree in psychology from the University of Denver. An accomplished student, Denney completed a Spanish language degree from the University of Granada in Granada, Spain in May 2000.
Adding to her coaching career, Denney has served as a camp counselor at the Don Klosterman Soccer Camps Inc. and at the University of Nebraska. She also coached for the Colorado Rush Soccer Club in Denver, Colo.
Denney is the daughter of current Nebraska-Omaha head wrestling coach Mike Denney and his wife Bonnie.
