COLUMBIA, MO -- Jon Harris took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Jayce Tingler went 3-for-5 as the Missouri Tigers won their third straight game, 8-1 over the Cal State Northridge Matadors on Saturday at Taylor Stadium at Simmons Field.
Harris squared his record at 4-4, pitching seven innings and allowing but four base hits. Mike Bumstead's leadoff single in the sixth inning was the first hit allowed by Harris, who allowed his only run on two hits in the seventh inning. He walked four and struck out four. Brian Ackerson finished up, fanning four in his two innings of work.
Tingler starter a four-run first inning for the Tigers with a base hit to left field that extended his hitting streak to seven games. J.R. Warner's single up the middle advanced Tingler to third and Stegall drove him home with his first hit of the series. After Nick Wilfong walked to load the bases, Mick Weiss plated a run with a ground out to second base and Dan Bane drove home two runs with a hit to left field.
J.R. Warner followed another Tingler hit in the second inning with his fourth home run of the season.
Tingler's fifth three-hit game of the season raised his batting average to .386 - best among freshmen in the Big 12 Conference. Stegall, the league's leading hitter, went one-for-three with two walks but saw his batting average dip below .400 for the first time this season. He's now at .399.
