COLUMBIA, MO.- Junior Pete Sansone recorded his second win of the year and freshman left-fielder Jayce Tingler knocked in three runs to help the University of Missouri (9-7, 3-3) knock off No. 4 Texas (16-4, 5-1), 5-3, Sunday in the finale of the weekend series.
Sansone (2-2) struck out seven batters during six innings of work and gave up two earned runs to help the Tigers win their first of the three-game series. Sophomore Ryan Stegall, who went 2-for-3 with two singles, recorded his fourth save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Junior catcher Jon Williams had a two-RBI double, knocking in third-baseman Landon Brandes and right-fielder J.R. Warner, in the bottom of the first inning to give the Tigers an early lead. Freshman left-fielder Jayce Tingler knocked in two runs on a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the fourth inning to provide plenty of scoring insurance for Missouri, who jumps to .500 in conference play.
Stegall, junior Ralph McCasland, sophomore P.J. McGinnis and junior Mitch Kiler gave up three hits and no runs in two innings of relief. Kiler struck out three in 1.2 innings of work.
Tommy Nicholson went 2-for-3 with a fifth-inning home run, and first-baseman Jeff Ontiveros knocked in one RBI for the Longhorns, who won the weekend series 1-2. The Missouri-Texas series is now tied at 9-9.
