Tiger Play
The Missouri women's soccer team returns to Columbia, Mo., to host its first home series in three weeks. The Tigers entertain No. 3 ranked Nebraska and conference rival Iowa State. Mizzou battles the Huskers Fri., Sept. 29 at 4:00 p.m., and tackles the Cyclones on Sun., Oct. 1 at 1:00 p.m. Both games are to be played at the Audrey J. Walton Soccer Complex.

Recent Results
Mizzou opened Big 12 Conference play downing Oklahoma State and Oklahoma on the road Sept. 22-24. The Tigers recorded a 2-0 shutout against Oklahoma State and a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma.

Against the Cowgirls, Missouri set the course of the game scoring its first goal with in the first five minutes of play. Steph Brennan dribbled the ball to the top right corner of the field and dished a cross into the box where senior Jennifer McMaster dished out a one-touch pass to Amy Timmermann. The midfielder cleared the shot to score her second goal of the season.

The Tigers second goal came during the 77th minute of the game when Brennan received a pass from senior forward Nikki Thole for the score.

Mizzou kept the Cowgirls to 10 shots in the game and only three shots on goal.

In their second game of the weekend, Missouri battled through a scoreless first half before finding their first goal. The Tigers entered the second half with their usual flare and scored the game winner within two minutes of play. Freshman Adriene Davis collected a cross from Thole to score the goal and hand the Tigers the victory.

Overall, Missouri out shot their opponents 13-10 with seven shots on goal.

Freshman Megan Duncan earned two shutouts playing the entire 180 minutes in the box. She recorded seven saves.

Scouting the Tigers
Missouri jumps back into the Top 25 after ending a solid travel series. The Tigers dropped out of the spotlight after being ranked 13th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Tigers have played teams appearing in the Top 25 rankings so far this season. They continue their challenging schedule facing No. 3 Nebraska and No. 9 Texas A&M during conference play. Reentering the Top 25, Missouri appears in the No. 24 spot in both the NSCAA and College Soccer Online polls.

In the stats column, Missouri has 17 season goals from 147 shots for a .116 shot percentage. The Tigers are also dominating the opposition with a .490 shots on goal average from 72 net strikes. Mizzou has also recorded 13 assists in 2000.

Missouri has proven time and again to be a strong second half contender, of 17 goals, 13 have been scored in the second period.

MU in the Big 12
Missouri ranks fifth in the conference with 47 team points. The Tigers are also fifth in goals, assists and saves with 57. Mizzou shows up in the No. 3 spot with three shutouts. The Tigers are also fifth in the Big 12 in home attendance averaging 582 fans per game.

Knockout Nikki
All-American Nikki Thole continues to top the charts. She leads Missouri with five assists 13 points and is second on the team with four goals. The senior posts a .514 shots on goal percentage with 19 of 37 shots saved. Thole ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 4.11 shots per game and is ninth with 1.44 points per game. She is seventh in the conference in assists.

Dynamite Davis
Freshman Adriene Davis continues to lead the team with five goals and 13 points. The forward also leads Mizzou with a .680 shots on goal percentage taking 17 of her 25 shots to the net. She is second for the Tigers with three assists. The Edmond, Okla., native scored her fifth goal of the season against Oklahoma last weekend putting in her second game winner of the season. In the Big 12, Davis is tied for sixth in goals and goals per game.

MU Defense
Shining on the defensive line against Oklahoma was Colorado native Suzy Probst. The sophomore made two team saves keeping the Tigers in the game. She skillfully deflected a shot taken off of a cornerkick. Goalkeeper Megan Duncan blocked a shot taken from the cross, but before she could reposition for another save a Sooner forward took aim. She was stopped however when Probst deflected the ball with a header. In Probst's second save of the game, an Oklahoma forward lured Duncan from the box then dribbled the ball around her for the shot. Probst slid into the box redirecting the ball with her abdomen for the save.

In the Box
Freshman Megan Duncan has served as the Tigers starting goalkeeper in the last four outings. She is 2-2 on the season owning two shutouts against conference rivals Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. She leads the team with 415:54 minutes in the box and a 1.73 goals against average. Duncan has defended 21 saves and allowed only eight goals.

Missouri Tidbits

  • Midfielder Steph Brennan climbs into the team's No. 3 spot with two goals and one assist for five points. She also posts a .625 shot on goal percentage with five of eight shots on goal.
  • Amy Timmermann follows Brennan with four points. She owns two goals on the season, both of which were game winners.
  • Defender Dyana Russell posts herself in the points column aiding the Tigers with an assists. She serves as Missouri's workhorse in the backfield, continually shutting down the oppositions' offensive leaders.

    Scouting Nebraska
    The Huskers look to be Missouri's toughest opponent this season. Ranked third in the nation, Nebraska boasts an impressive 10-0 season record including eight shutouts. The Huskers have decimated their opponent out scoring them 51-3 and allowing only 86 shots during 900 minutes of play.

    The Nebraska scoring effort is led by Meghan Anderson who posts 24 points from seven goals and 10 assists. In second, Christine Latham has 22 points from 10 goals and two assists. In the box, keeper Karina LeBlanc owns 6.5 shutouts and posts an incredible .35 goals against average. She has allowed only three goals and has made 31 saves.

    Nebraska leads the Big 12 in all categories including points (159), goals (51), shots (281), assists (57), goals allowed and shutouts.

    Scouting Iowa State
    The Cyclones are 4-4 on the season with an 0-1 conference record after falling to Baylor 3-0. Iowa State was ranked 10th in the NSCAA Central Region last week, but fell out of the polls after taking two losses over the weekend, also dropping a game to SMU 4-0.

    Nicole Wilcox who tops the charts with 11 points, four goals and three assists leads Iowa State. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Chapman has played 701:16 minutes. She posts a 1.28 goals against average allowing 10 goals and making 23 saves.
